100 Degrees Dance Collective have reached the finals of a regional dance competition taking place on 12 November 2010. The troupe is made up of young boys and Girls and is lead by Miss Chinky, the senior dance teacher. The group meet every week to dance some of the hottest steps around. Miss Chinky & Co-teacher, Hot-Steppa, work on more than just the young people's dance moves. The teachers encourage the young people to be confident, self aware, have attitude and over come any barriers they may be facing.

The group meet every Thursday at Summerfield community centre from 5pm. This week was the Halloween dance special, so it was a fancy dress dance night. The group continued to work on their routine and the adult class was about to take part after the the young un's had finished. The group are marked on their attitude, their props they may use and the moves they buss while performing infront of the group. "This ain't no place for no shy people", Chinky told them, "If you can't perform in front of people ya know, how ya gon do it in front of others?". The troupe are marked down for not 'giving their all'.

100degrees2p350x150beigeOne young lady (very young lady - approx 4-5 yrs), was shy and didn't want to take part. She started crying. Miss Chinky took the lady to one side spoke to her and reassured her mother. At the end of the class she was 'bussin some break dancing moves' and felt comfortable in the group.

Supatrax witnessed that there was more than just 'a come and skank attitude' to the class, the girls and boys were learning life skills that would make them better people and hopefully keep them outta tha badness on road.

We will be catching up wid Miss Chinky and the troupe when they go for the regional finals - Keep ya fingers crossed and get down there if ya can!
